The instructions below were written for Marketing staff, giving them guidance on how to add an Event listing to a corporate website using the company's Content Management System (OpenCMS).


Adding an event

Events go onto the website as HTML - so that the information they contain is picked up by the search engines. Follow the instructions below to add an event to the site.

Use your browser to go to: http://www.company.com/opencms

Login with your user name and password.

Note: If you are repeatedly asked to login check that your Browser is not blocking Pop ups.

Click OK to close the Browser.

Set the Project: field in the top left hand corner to Offline

In the Folder view in the LH navigational pane, click down to:

system > modules > com.vfsportal >default_bodies > apac > int_en  (as shown in the picture below)

In the list of files, find one of the existing events. They'll be named events_XX.html (see example below)

Left click on the  Icon to the left of the file name. Select Lock. Wait for the lock icon to appear.

lick on the  Icon again and select Copy.

Enter the file name for the new event. It must be in the format: events_<identifying name>.html

Leave the Keep existing permissions checkbox checked.

Press OK.

Locate your new file in the file list and Left click on the  Icon next to it. Select Properties.

Click on the Title and click on the Edit button. 

Change the title to suit the event - include the name of the event and the country it is in. This is what is displayed in the News section on the Home page & in the RH column on other pages. Click OK.
If  then
the event is appropriate for all regions and is in English go to step 7
the event  is NOT appropriate for all regions and is in English go to step 6
the event  is in a language other then English go to step 6

Select Classifier from the list of properties and click the Edit button.

The 10th position in the classification code is the country and the 11th is the language (2nd last and last).  Change the codes to suit. Refer to the country list & the language list if necessary.

Click OK and OK.

Left click on the  Icon again and select Edit page.

Note: Use Edit sourcecode  if you are cutting and pasting from Word as all the Word formatting is copied over in Edit page mode and then you have to get rid of it.

Type in the text that you want to appear for this event (this is shown in a page by itself). If you want to add a logo or graphic then follow the instructions to do so. 

If you don't want to link to another website with information about the event then delete the more link, otherwise:

Double click on the 'more' text and click on the hyperlink icon . A dialog box will pop up - you may have to click on it in the Windows toolbar if it appears behind an open window.

Open another browser and find the site for the event (if there is one). 

Cut and paste the URL from that browser into the Link URL field in the dialog box shown above.

Change the Target to New window.

Click OK.

Click on the Save and exit icon.

Click on the file name to see how the event will appear on the site. Edit the page again if you need to make any adjustments.

When the file is ready to go, click on the Icon again and select Unlock. Wait for the lock to disappear.

Click on the Icon again and select Publish directly.

Click OK. The system will check for broken links etc and will publish the file.

Check that the correct file is being linked to from the site.
